Charities help low-income families all year round.  Do you need financial assistance with a bill or other mandatory needs?  Organizations like Catholic Charities and the Salvation Army make a real difference in the lives of disadvantaged families, the elderly, and the homeless.  Without the assistance of charities, needy families would have to go without.


Also, generous organizations like the Lions Club and Goodwill Industries, as well as churches in your community, are ready and willing to support you. I will tell you who they are and how to get help. The following suggested agencies are not only Christmas charities but can also help you find a little extra money and help when you need it the most.

Charities That Help Families During Christmas

Salvation Army

The Salvation was founded by William and Catherine Booth and is located in over 120 countries, and has been helping the poor for almost 150 years. They help people from every stratum of society.  There you can find help with job training, counseling, elderly assistance, religious services, and drug rehabilitation. They also provide  Thanksgiving meal baskets and Christmas charity that gives away toys to children.

If you want to have a better chance of receiving help, register as early as October.  Millions of dollars are donated annually to fund The Salvation Army Christmas charities program that helps disadvantaged families, seniors, and the homeless. They provide needy families with financial assistance, meals, clothes, and toys.   (more)

Catholic Charities

Catholic Charities has been working to strengthen families and help the poor. Their advocacy programs have been working to help improve the lives of families worldwide. They network with other agencies as well to strengthen their ability to provide support to the poor.

Catholic Charities also distributes Christmas gifts, Thanksgiving meals, cold-weather clothing, and household goods to needy families. Make a Wish Foundation

The Make-A-Wish organization helps fulfill the dreams of children with life-threatening illnesses. This foundation helps sick children all year round, but even more during the holiday season.   If you would like help to fulfill a child’s special wish, please call the Make a Wish Foundation. Lion’s Club

Lion’s Club also helps with Christmas gifts.  eyeglasses, hearing aids, critical eye screenings, hunger programs, childhood cancer support, and so much more.  To receive help from this organization, contact your local Lions Club branch. Christmas Spirit Foundation

This organization supplies live Christmas trees to those in the Armed Forces overseas forces stationed overseas. There is no place like home from the holidays. But these brave men and women can not go home because they are serving their country. Each family who desires will receive a free Christmas tree to help celebrate the season. Local Churches

Most of the large demonstrations work with the government to aid low-income families, with help paying past-due bills such as rent, mortgage, and electricity. If you are facing disconnection of your electricity, water, or eviction, they have been given the authority to distribute government funds to the community.

If you have problems in any of the situations mentioned above, contact some Catholic, Word of Faith, Baptist, or Episcopal churches in your community for help. Many of these ministries also have charities and toy drives as well.  (church assistance programs)

Christmas Assistance with Bills

Local Food Banks

Food banks are located in every community as a support to families who are unemployed, disabled, low-income families, the disabled, and the elderly. Many food banks only allow you to get help once each month to ensure they can help more people.  You may have to go to more than one food bank for help. If you need help with food for the holidays, contact the United Way or your local Department of Social Services to get a list of agencies offering help.


You may also be able to sign up for a charity to receive a holiday basket that usually includes a turkey.  You may get a chicken with all the fix-ins to cook a holiday dinner. To qualify for the best food banks, you will need to be screened by a church, social services, or the charity referring to you. You must meet the poverty guidelines, be unemployed, or have proof of unemployment.   Find food banks in your area.

I am and always have been a hard work after five yrs with my company they fired me this Wednesday.I have 3 boys 15,14,12.l have not got any type of help before l have always had alot of pride .I have been divorce for 5 yrs now.I HAVE fought hard to keep my boys with me threw a bad cusduty case the past few yrs.All my money has been tide yup with that .Now all i have are by boys and my apartment.My responsible to make sure l have food on the tAble and a roof on our head .The past to days l have applied for unemployment and talk to my landlord about the rent .SO close to Christmas and we had not got ready for it this weekend was my free paycheck to go shop now this happen.I so disappoint with this out come .ALL I ASK IS FOR Yalls prays our yr well be better and and dont lose my kids in this change to lost if my job

If you need help with food, clothes, or help with bills, contact St. Paul de Vincent Catholic Church, Salvation Army, or Catholic Charities. To help stretch you money go to the food banks for help. Also go to the department of social services to get emergency assistance, and a referral to a food bank. The Catholic Church gives good food and meat if available. Please let me know if we can be of any further help. Let us know how things are going.

    2. Trust in God we have no other choice as children of God we must suffer but the lord will never let us go though things that we cant handel. I lost my job in august and was getting unemployment until the labor department cut my money off the week of Christmas. I got gifts for everyone the last gift was for my wife, now with no money for rent or to pay my cable I must stay in faith there is notthing more that can be done at the moment.     3. Hello Jeremy, Thank you for writing Free Financial Help. I would suggest contacting. The Lutheran church does a lot of outreach to the community. Perhaps you can find some help there. These agencies and charities do not give cash, but will help pay delinquent rent or utilities. This assistance is based on your income. Please prepare to show proof of income, and address.
