Free SNAP Eligibility Calculator — See If You Qualify in 2026
Use our free SNAP eligibility calculator to find out if you qualify for food stamps (SNAP benefits) and estimate your monthly benefit. It uses current federal SNAP rules for 2025-2026 and takes about two minutes. Nothing is saved or shared — the calculation runs in your browser.
Step 1 of 4
Tell us about your household.
Count everyone who lives with you AND eats meals together. Include children, elderly parents, and anyone else you share food with.
Step 2 of 4
Monthly household income.
Enter monthly amounts (multiply weekly by 4.33, or divide annual by 12). Include income from ALL household members.
From jobs, self-employment, side work
Social Security, SSI, unemployment, child support, etc.
Step 3 of 4
Household members and special situations.
Check any that apply. These can significantly increase your benefit amount.
Step 4 of 4
Monthly housing & expenses.
These reduce your “countable” income — usually meaning a higher benefit. Estimates are fine; you’ll provide exact amounts to your state agency.
Monthly rent, mortgage, property tax, insurance
Heat, electric, water, gas, phone
Only if working/in school/training
Only if elderly/disabled, over $35/mo
Important: This calculator provides an estimate only based on federal SNAP rules. Your actual eligibility and benefit amount is determined by your state SNAP agency. Many states have rules that make qualifying easier (Broad-Based Categorical Eligibility, higher income limits). Always apply to your state — even if this calculator says you might not qualify, you may still be eligible.

About SNAP
What SNAP actually is, in plain English.
SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) — also called food stamps or EBT — is a federal program that helps low-income families buy food. Benefits arrive monthly on an EBT card that works like a debit card at grocery stores, farmers markets, and many corner stores.
It’s the largest hunger-relief program in America. Over 41 million Americans use SNAP every month, and the average family receives around $200 per person per month in benefits.
What you can buy
Fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, dairy, bread, cereals, snacks, non-alcoholic beverages, seeds for growing food. Hot prepared foods are excluded in most states.
How long it takes
Standard processing: up to 30 days. Emergency expedited SNAP: 7 days or less if you have very low income and minimal resources.
Asset limits
Federal: $3,000 in countable resources ($4,500 if elderly/disabled). Most states waive this through Broad-Based Categorical Eligibility.
Work requirements
Adults age 18-54 without children must meet work requirements (20 hours/week or job training). Many exemptions apply.
This calculator uses strict federal rules. Most states use Broad-Based Categorical Eligibility (BBCE), which allows gross income up to 200% of Federal Poverty Level — meaningfully higher than the federal baseline.
Check your state's actual income limits — search "[your state] SNAP income limits 2026" to find current numbers.
Apply if there's any chance you qualify. Applications are free, take 20-30 minutes, and the state will tell you for sure. You're not "taking" benefits from anyone.
If recently lost income (layoff, hours cut, divorce), apply right away. Many people qualify when their income drops, not just when they're chronically low-income.
