Free Christmas tree programs.  Christmas trees are really very expensive and $30 or 40 is a lot to pay for something you will throw in the trash in a few days.  Do a search for free Christmas trees near me and you will be surprised to know, there are programs that give free trees.   I found an interesting way to get free or discount trees is to wait until the evening before Christmas.

If found this out years ago when I waiting until the last minute to get a tree.  When I went shopping, the man at the tree lot was backing up are ready to call it a day.  I found a tree and asked him how much,  he said, “take it.  It’s free.  If you don’t want to wait until Christmas Eve to get a tree, keep reading.

Organizations that Give Free Christmas Trees

Christmas Tree Santas

This organization works with community and human services organizations to help low-income families experience the joys of Christmas by giving away free trees.  Of course they can not provide for every family in need, as with most charities it is a first come first serve situation.   A certain number of trees are set aside before time.

Families will receive a voucher to present when you come to pick up your Christmas tree.  Each year this organization is adding new locations to the list of deserving families.  Right now there is six-state this program is available.  Georgia, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, North Carolina, and Texas.  Here is a list of states and organizations locations:   Here is a list of states and organizations locations:

The Christmas Tree Project

This wonderful organization has an amazing goal to not only give away free trees but fully decorated trees!  What an insightful concept, as many needy families may not have the means to spend on electric lights, bulbs, angel tops all the things that make the holiday season come to life.  To date, this organization has given more than 2,800 trees!  They serve,  Colorado Springs and Denver,  Reno and Los Angeles, and are now all over the US.  To request a tree go here.

Trees for Troops

This is an organization that gives free Christmas trees to military families.  The initial program sent a live tree to soldiers who were deployed to try to bring a little holiday cheer to men and women away from their families.  Today military families who are separated from the partners can also get free trees.  Each year trees are given out to military families on the first weekend of December.  If you are a military spouse that would like to receive the free tree contacts the organization early.
