Free Financial Help exists to connect families in hard times with real, legitimate assistance. Because we cover money and benefits — decisions that affect people’s lives — we hold our information to a high standard. Here’s how we work, where our information comes from, and how we keep it trustworthy.

Who we are

Free Financial Help is a resource website operated by Free Financial Help Services. It was founded out of lived experience — by a single working mother who navigated financial hardship firsthand and wanted to make it easier for others to find the help she once needed. That experience is the heart of everything we publish: we write for real families facing real pressure, not for an abstract audience.

Where our information comes from

Every program, charity, and benefit we describe is drawn from primary, authoritative sources — not rumor or hearsay. Our information comes from:

  • Official government sources — including USA.gov, Benefits.gov, the USDA Food and Nutrition Service (SNAP, WIC, Summer EBT), HUD (housing), HHS (LIHEAP), and the IRS (tax credits).
  • Established national organizations — such as The Salvation Army, Catholic Charities, Feeding America, Toys for Tots, United Way (211), and Meals on Wheels.
  • State and local agencies — departments of social services, community action agencies, and official state benefit portals.

Wherever possible, we link directly to the official source so you can verify details and apply through the legitimate channel.

How we keep our information accurate

  • We review our most-visited guides regularly, and we refresh seasonal content (holiday assistance, Summer EBT, LIHEAP) ahead of each season.
  • Program rules, income limits, and deadlines change. We update key figures as official sources publish them — and we always point you to the official source for the final word.
  • If we learn that a program has changed or a detail is outdated, we correct it.

Our pledge to you: We will never charge you to access information about free assistance, never ask you to pay a third party to “unlock” a government benefit, and never recommend a program we wouldn’t point our own family toward. If a resource costs money, we say so plainly.

Important: this is guidance, not professional advice

The information on this site is provided for general educational purposes to help you find assistance. It is not financial, legal, tax, or medical advice, and it does not guarantee eligibility or approval for any program. Eligibility and benefits are determined solely by each program’s administering agency. For decisions about your specific situation, please consult the program directly or a qualified professional.
