Goodwill Wheels to Work Car Program

Goodwill’s “Wheels to Work” program is designed to help individuals achieve greater independence by providing affordable transportation. Access to reliable transportation can be a critical barrier for many individuals seeking employment or trying to maintain a job, especially in areas where public transportation might be limited or non-existent. Here’s how the program generally works.

The primary goal of the “Wheels to Work” program is to assist individuals in overcoming transportation barriers to employment. By offering affordable vehicles to eligible participants, the program helps them maintain steady employment and achieve greater economic independence.

This program helps you get a low-interest, reliable, used vehicle.  However, their particular used car program helps working adults get a reliable car with their unique financing program.

This faith-based charity provides training programs to help the unemployed develop marketable skills and get jobs. Goodwill Industries is famous for bringing hope to communities and individuals facing challenges.

Goodwill Working in the Community

They hire disadvantaged people with disabilities. Goodwill also provides free furniture and household items to families with incomes under the poverty level. (Program not available in every state) .

Many are getting the transportation needed for work and daily responsibilities—the program name changes from state to state. This charity’s great work is to help deserving low-income families across the United States.

You will have peace of mind knowing that the vehicles sold have been thoroughly repaired to ensure reliable transportation.

If you are a working adult looking for transportation, you can trust this is a great option. (We are not associated with Goodwill in any way. Don’t hesitate to contact your local GW to see if the program is available in your state.)

How the Wheels for Work Program Works

The Wheels to Work program helps employed low-income people with disabilities get the tools needed to earn a living and care for themselves and their families. They do not give away used cars but will help you purchase a car for low monthly interest-free payments until it is paid off.

There are no credit checks with the Goodwill Wheels to Work program Purchasing a used vehicle from Goodwill Industries is also an excellent way to establish or improve the present or credit.

This charity, just like the Salvation Army, has always been dedicated to helping those with low incomes and restoring lives and dignity to families and individuals. The program may go by other names in some states, such as Wheels for Work.

The name of the program tells it all. It is designed to help working people access reliable forms of transportation. Hopefully, it will take hours of travel time off your day and make life a little easier.

Making Car Ownership Possible

It is no secret that having reliable transportation is essential. It can make the difference between finding a job or working further out where you can get better pay.

The Goodwill car vehicle program (Wheels for Work) helps low-income working families maintain better employment and family stability.  Goodwill Industries sponsors this program to help low-income adults gain financial strength with a car.  How do I get a free vehicle?

Can I Get a Car to Look for a Job?

The catch is that you already have to have a job. Wheels for Work supports people already working and helps them continue working and caring for their families.

To be considered for the program, you must be working and show a consistent employment history in a full-time job. You will need proof that you are working and need a car to keep your job.

Example: If you live in an area without mass transportation, you have an unreliable vehicle, or your car needs repairs or is not worth repairing.

An undependable vehicle can cause you to lose your job; what a nightmare to have to pray that your vehicle starts when you turn the key.

These are all legitimate reasons to be considered. If you have a vehicle you are not using, please consider donating it to Wheels to Work, and you will receive a tax deduction.

How to Qualify for the Used Car Program

  • Have no drug offenses
  • Provide proof of residence
  • Been working for six months to a year
  • If you don’t presently have a car registered in your name.
  • Been working for six months to a year in the same job
  • You have an up-to-date driver’s license from your state.
  • Must pass a criminal background check, MVR, and DMV
  • Provide proof of income with current W-2 or recent payroll stubs
  • Remain working one year after receiving transportation

Every state does not facilitate Wheels to Work, so contact the Goodwill Headquarters in your area to see if this program is available.

Many people with poor credit purchase cars from dealerships with high weekly or monthly payments. Also, most cars are in sold as-is condition.

If it breaks down, you are stuck. The Goodwill Wheels to Work program allows you to purchase a reliable vehicle for low monthly payments without a credit check!

How to Access the Wheels to Work Program

If someone is interested in the “Wheels to Work” program, they should contact their local Goodwill organization to inquire about availability and specific program details.

In essence, Goodwill’s “Wheels to Work” program recognizes transportation’s fundamental role in employment and seeks to address this often-overlooked barrier, empowering individuals to achieve greater economic and personal independence.

Free Cars

Some organizations and non-profits give away free cars. There are also many people on waiting lists to receive them. You have to have a compelling story to be considered for a free car. Most people don’t have time to wait around for a car, and Wheels for Work is a great alternative to getting a new vehicle.

Please Donate your Used Car

So many families in America have two, three, or four cars sitting in the driveway. Therefore, if you have an older model needing repair, please consider donating it to this organization.

Your donation is tax-deductible. Your gift can help someone less fortunate. So, whether you need a car or you have a car you want to donate, I wish you, Goodwill!

I really really need a little help right now, i am a 38 year old female from Louisiana and im disabled and have been for a long time now mentally but im physically able to work, as long as im mentally stable enough. And now because of it im about to be homeless in less than 30 days, my only hope is to get my car fixed but ive changed every part i possibly could with my own hands. These people used me up and abused me and now they are throwing me to the wolves because they don’t want to get caught. I desperately need help, my life depends on it.

  48. Daniel Willis

Hello my name is Daniel. I have a full time job and I was sharing a car with my fiance and her sister who Iive with me and split bills. I was in an accident a guy blew a red light which totaled our car. The police determined the other driver was at fault but the guy told his insurance company a different version which is now resulting in a lengthy investigation where they will not even provide me a rental car until they have accepted fault. We all cannot afford to uber to and from work after this weekend and have no access to public transportation. The list of qualifications says “not presently have a registered vehicle”. My car is still in my name (bought it in cash so don’t owe anything on it) but as I said is completely totaled and I cannot get a loan for a car because of my credit but I could afford a car payment and hopefully the insurance company decides the police report is enough proof that the other guy was at fault but if I cannot find other transportation asap all 3 of us could Iose our jobs. I live in Charlotte, NC if there is this program here could I still qualify?

    1. Hello, Daniel. If you have been working 8-12 months you may be able to get a low-interest with Goodwill industries. If your car is totaled should not be a problem. You need to find out if the program Wheels for Work available at the Goodwill Industries in your area.

Bring and legal documents that prove you have legal guardianship over the child.

  50. Paul A Dye

I have been through your program that helped me reenter the workforce. I obtained employment unfortunately the company laid all of us off. I gained valuable experience in the dispatcher position. Greenway transportation, the local company who allows handicapped individuals transportation showed extreme interest in hiring me until finding out I didn’t have reliable transportation. I’m handicapped with Multiple Sclerosis and require modified vehicles to drive. Living off SSDI income leaves no extra funds to purchase a vehicle. Greenway Public Transportation will still hire me, but I need a vehicle. Vocational Rehabilitation and Independent Living do not assist in purchasing vehicles. I desperately need your help. Please advise if you are able to assist me.

    1. Hello, Paul. I’m sorry you got laid off. I know that is tough! Goodwill Industries’ policy is that you must need to the to get back and forth to work. Try contacting 1-800 Charity Cars to see if they can help. Also call 211 The Unity Way to see what help is available in yourarea.
