FEMA:ย  Different Texas Disaster Assistance Programs

FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) is an agency of the United States Department of Homeland Security.ย  They aim to deal with hurricanes, wildfires, tornadoes, winter storms, floods, and other disasters too big for state and local municipalities. ย  Once the governor requests a State of Emergency from the president, FEMA and other agencies have the authority and funding to respond.

  • For those who use 711 or Video Relay Service (VRS), call 1-800-621-3362.
  • The toll-free telephone numbers will operate from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. (local time) seven days a week until further notice.

Texas (D-SNAP) – Disaster SNAP

D-SNAP is a food benefit given to residents during a disaster. ย You may be eligible for D-SNAP benefits when

  • You do not get regular SNAP benefits
  • You were living in the declared disaster area
  • You have clean-up expenses
  • Lost your job due to a disaster
  • You need repairs on your home or business
  • Temporary shelter or evacuation expenses
  • Securing your home or business
  • Replace personal or household items
  • Personal injury, including funeral expenses

When you apply for D-SNAP, a caseworker calculates your income at the time of theย disaster, money in the bank, on hand, etc. D-SNAP benefits are determined by income and family size.

Harvey Financial Assistance

Texas is a great producer of cattle and produce. Farmers can experience huge losses during a natural disaster. If you are a farmer or rancher, the Texas Department of Agriculture provides emergency programs and resources during your time of need.

The STAR Fund (State of Texas Agriculture Relief Fund) helps farmers and ranchers during unexpected emergencies. This fund can help rebuild and secure properties, get businesses up and running, and meet other immediate needs. $1,000 is given for each $2,000 of expenses. You have 60 days to apply for assistance.

Eligibility –ย You must complete an application and provide proof of loss and invoices for all restoration work.ย
