1. City of Los Angeles Emergency Rental Assitance Program

If you require help with your rent due to any circumstances related to COVID-19, a good place for you to start is with the City of Los Angeles Emergency Renters Assistance Program. This program was started in 2020 to provide LA’s tenants and landlords with some economic relief during the pandemic to avoid people’s displacement.

In 2020 the plan allocated one hundred and three million dollars and was predicted to help over 50 thousand different families.  It is important to know that the 2021 rent relief program is still under development right now, but with the link below, you can sign up to receive email notifications as the plan is updated.

2. PATH Beyond Shelter

PATH Beyond Shelter- Los Angeles County was originally founded by a group of Los Angeles community members who support the homeless in their neighborhoods. They worked to provide those living on the street of Los Angeles with food and clothing.

The organization has expanded and is now one of the largest organizations that serve the homeless in all of California.  They offer services such as employment opportunities and homelessness prevention. They also offer several different services to help you if you are struggling with housing.

These programs are not only offered to those who are already on the streets but to anyone in need. They have homelessness prevention programs, housing navigation, rapid rehousing, and permanent supportive housing.

3. Volunteers of America of Los Angeles

The Volunteers of America of Los Angeles or VOALA is an organization that has a wide variety of programs that are meant to service the different groups that are most in need, such as homeless youth and veterans. While their rent relief programs are limited compared to some of the other options on this list, they have some resources available.

Their rent assistance program offers people limited eviction prevention. When they have the funds available, they offer those who qualify assistance on a one-time basis. They also offer programs, such as those meant to help you find employment if needed.

4. Catholic Charities OASIS (Older Adult Services and Intervention System)

Finding affordable housing can be difficult at any time but can be particularly difficult when you are older.  OASIS is a housing and rental assistance program run by Catholic Charities.  They help by assisting with deposits for utilities and rental deposits.

This program also helps seniors with the support necessary to help them remain independent and keep their belongings.  Seniors can receive help with transportation to doctor’s visits, shopping, and other important places they need to go.

5. County of Los Angeles

The County of Los Angeles has many different programs designed to help the citizens of Los Angeles. One of these programs is the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority which works with both the city and the county and has been since 1993. This organization manages 70+ million dollars a year to provide shelter and housing services to the Los Angeles homeless.

They also have programs through the Department of Public Social Services that provides several different services to the Los Angeles public. These services include financial support, employment, health care, food benefits, and in-home services.

These special programs are for families with children, pregnant women, the elderly, and disabled individuals.  You can receive rent assistance when you qualify financially.  Another good place to find resources is the County of Los Angeles. 6. Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles

The Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles is another government program where you can get help if you need rent assistance.  The Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles offers utility allowances, voucher payment standards, homeownership programs, and more. They also offer services that go beyond housing.

These services include various child education programs, employment training, job placement, job retention, recreational services, and language services. They also have programs to help get internet into low-income homes, which is especially important for children in school.

They are open Monday through Friday from 8 in the morning to 4 in the afternoon. Call or go to their main office during those hours, though there may be some COVID restrictions. 7. One Voice Family Assistance Program

One Voice Family Assistance Program has different programs designed to provide families in need with whatever they need. They provide food, rent, utilities help, medical expenses, clothing, funeral expenses, and more necessary resources. They also have school and summer camp programs if you need help with your kids to work. One Voice Family Assistance Program is a great option for families in need of rent assistance. 8. St. Margaret’s Center

St. Margaret’s Center is an organization in Los Angeles made up of several different Catholic charities. It was first formed in 1987 and has served low-income and homeless families. One of their programs is an emergency shelter and rent program. This program offers rent assistance for eligible families and individuals and emergency, short-term hotel vouchers when needed.

You can also take advantage of many of their other services to help you save in other areas to help you cover rent. These other programs include:

Church Assistance Programs

9. St. Joseph Center

St. Joseph Center started in 1976 to provide advocacy for and assist families with their basic needs, including food, clothing, and job support. Their programs are divided into four main categories: outreach and engagement, housing, mental health, and educational and vocational services. You are encouraged to take advantage of any of these programs that you need.

Their housing programs help homeless families and individuals obtain and maintain housing stability. They have a program specifically for children called the Coordinated Entry System for Families. This program offers short-term rental assistance, referrals, and case management to help families secure and then keep stable, permanent housing near, if not in, the area they are already based in/want to stay in.

They also have a rapid re-housing program for individuals, youth, and families who have lost and need to regain housing quickly. This program includes move-in assistance and short-term rental subsidies after moving in as you get on your feet.  Finally, St. Joseph Center has a Permanent Supportive Housing Program. This program provides various services that help men, women, and families secure voucher-based apartments. After you are in an apartment, the program will help provide stability and self-sufficiency.

10. The Unity of Life Foundation

The Unity of Life Foundation operates to prevent and eliminate homelessness by helping families maintain the necessities that they need, such as shelter, food, and clothing. They offer utility assistance and rent/mortgage assistance.

You can receive utility assistance by filling out an application on their website, and you can expect to hear from them within 24 to 48 hours. 11. Pasadena Emergency Rental Assistance Program

The Emergency Rental Assistance (ERA) Program financially eligible families have lost their income due to the pandemic.  They give grants to help with rent payments.  These grants will pay for up to three months’ late rent but no more than 4,500.   If you are a resident of Pasadena, you may qualify for assistance.

      Hello, Maurice. Please call the United Way at 2-1-1. They can give you information on where to get help with bills, prescriptions food. Also, see if you are eligible for cash assistance from the Department of Social Services. Good luck Maurice.
