In Georgia there are many charities, federal government programs, and community organizations help with bills until you can become more financially stable. Whether you have lost your job, or work and are struggling, there is a program available to help you.
Where Do I Get Financial Help in Georgia
There are assistance programs in Georgia that can help with rent, utilities, temporary housing, prescription meds, and more. When you qualify financially and are a resident of Georgia you can find financial assistance programs to meet your needs.
Local Church Assistance in Georgia
Many faith-based organizations serve as an arm of the government and other social programs to screen and distribute funds to qualified families and individuals. These charities help deserving families with basic support to help maintain family stability.
Churches can also help with bills like rent, utilities, and food, and those with thrift stores can provide clothing and furniture to victims of disasters and other hardships.
Salvation Army
The Salvation Army has locations all over the United States and helps with a variety of situations. You must first qualify financially and produce proof of income, address, and identification for all family members. They offer housing, food, clothing, temporary housing for women with children, rent, and utilities. Contact your local Salvation Army.
Free and Discount Health Care
Everyone in Georgia should have access to some medical care, regardless of income or ability to pay. Many clinics serve disadvantaged families and individuals. Â Always speak to the hospital’s financial department when you need help with bills.
There are also programs in local hospitals that offer sliding scale benefits based on a person’s income. These programs provide the ability to see a doctor as well as help with prescription drugs. Â Clients can pay anything from a percentage of their hospital bills and medication to nothing at all.
Free and Low-Cost Dental Care
Dental care is expensive, and many people who work every day don’t have dental insurance.  You can receive care from a dental clinic in the state.  The only problem is there is often a long waiting list to be seen.  If you have an emergency like dental pain or need to have a tooth removed, you can get help more quickly.
Some dentists donate their time to help low-income families and individuals and charge a small fee to be seen.  (Free Dental Care) There are also traveling dental teams that go from state to state to treat clients for free. You can also receive help by going to a dental college in the state.  Georgia assistance programs help families maintain stability.
Social Services Emergency Assistance
You do not have to be receiving public assistance to get help with bills. Â The Georgia DDS offers once a year of emergency help with rent and utilities. Â You can also get help with emergency expedited SNAP benefits and referrals to community food banks and other charitable organizations. Â So if you have an eviction notice or are about to lose your utilities, go to the Georgia Department of Social Services.
SNAP Benefits
Even if you do not qualify for TANF, you may be eligible for nutritional benefits through the SNAP – Georgia Food Stamp program. They will provide food benefits each month to help you feed your family. Â

The energy assistance program in Georgia gives help in the form of a yearly check to help with utility bills. Georgia financial assistance programs like the Energy Assistance Program help make sure disadvantaged families do not go without heat or electricity. Â
The checks are usually sent the first month of January to qualified enrolled families.  Funding is limited, and priority is given to families with children first. Utility checks range from $310 to $350 per eligible household.  You are not entitled to a check if your landlord pays utilities.  Â

After School Care Programs
The After school Care Program serves youth and their families when children are out of school. Â This program helps low to moderate-income families and the foster care system. Â
The program’s goal is to allow every child and youth to experience academic success and enhance well-being through positive youth development. Homework assistance, counseling, and educational tools are provided to the children.
Help with Childcare
CAPS or Childcare and Parent Services help low-income families with free or affordable childcare assistance. Â Georgia serves 159 counties through the Department of Family and Childcare Services. If you are a resident of Georgia, you can apply and receive help when you qualify financially.
CAPS will subsidize your childcare payment directly to the caregiver. They serve families with children under the age of 13 and up to 18 for children with disabilities. Â If approved, you can choose your own provider or daycare facility. Apply for assistance at COMPASS.
Rent Assistance and Section 8 Housing
Section 8 and rent assistance are just one of the Georgia financial assistance programs that help prevent homelessness. This program helps low-income families and individuals pay rent and works to find safe and affordable housing for families, persons with disabilities, and qualified veterans.
The program pays monthly rent and housing payments.  You qualify for rent assistance or Section 8 housing when your median household income is at or below 50%.  Types of Housing Assistance Programs supported are

 The Community Helping Place (CHP)
The Community Helping Place (CHP) is a 501(c)(3) located in Dahlonega, Georgia. This outreach to the community provides services such as:
- Free medical
- Dental clinics
- Summer feeding program for children,
- Emergency financial assistance for rent, utilities, etc.
They also offer a food pantry, baby pantry, and referral services to other organizations for help. These services are made possible by the generous donations of individuals, businesses, churches, and civic groups. All this is achieved through volunteers and donations from businesses, individuals, and church groups. They also sponsor CHP White Christmas, a holiday assistance program as well.
